The 'First' Aviemore Highland Half-Marathon

October 15, 2006

The 'First' Aviemore Highland Half-Marathon A spectacular scenic course on road and excellent forest tracks starting in the shadow of the Cairngorm Mountains, around breathtaking Loch Morlich, through stunning Glenmore Forest Park and Rothiemurchus Est

General Event Information

The first ever Aviemore Highland Half Marathon will take place on Sunday October 15th 2006 and will hopefully see 500 runners from all over Scotland and the UK taking part in this exciting brand new event.

The superbly scenic course is set within the shadow of the mighty Cairngorm Mountains and passes through rich and lush forest areas and around beautiful Loch Morlich before heading on a gentle downhill gradient into Aviemore crossing the world famous River Spey salmon river on the way.

The route consists of excellent forest tracks and cycle ways as well as some tarmac sections and will be fully marshalled and have water refreshment stations at strategic points. The 11am Start will be at the Badaguish Cairngorm Outdoor Centre, a green and open oasis within the Glenmore Forest, with competitors being transported up to the Centre by buses from Aviemore. The grandstand finish and a huge local welcome will be located within the sumptuous new Aviemore Highland Resort area.

All runners will receive a well-deserved quality memento of the event and there will be also be an extensive prize and award list - to be announced later.

All proceeds from the event will go the Speyside Trust Badaguish Centre a registered Scottish Charity providing respite care breaks and outdoor activity holidays for people with special needs who love the great outdoors too. We would be really delighted if any runners taking part chose to raise some extra funds for the Centre through sponsorship of their race efforts; optional event sponsorship forms are included with entry receipt, downloadable here or by contacting the organisers.

The race limit is currently 500 runners and no entries will be taken on the day of the event; the closing date for postal entries is October 1st 2006. The event will be sanctioned by Scottish Athletics Ltd and operated under their permit; the course will be accurately measured and signed. A final information booklet containing all event details, timings, schedule, route map etc will be sent to entrants from June onwards.

Why not consider making a weekend of it and stay in Aviemore and enjoy the exciting new facilities that are transforming the village.
