Canoeing in Aviemore, Scotland

Canoeing

Canoeing in the Scottish Highlands

Kneeling expectantly with your paddle at the ready and your helmet safely secured you are once again ready to face the challenge that the river throws up as it flows along below your canoe. From a gentle paddle to a fast and turbulent descent, the adrenaline flows and increases the sense of anticipation of an exciting day on the water.  There is always an element of danger with any sport so it is imperative that you have good basic skills to enable you to cope with the unexpected.

Turning turtle in a canoe can be a frightening experience if you lack a thorough knowledge of this chosen sport. The Ardenbeg Outdoor Centre, near Aviemore, where you can hire boats and equipment, provides supervision and tuition for the newer paddler.  They also offer half-day family paddling on the River Spey or longer expeditions from Aviemore to Spey Bay.   This is suitable for all the family, as there are canoeing holidays available.

Many businesses listed on this site are Outdoor Activity service providers, offering tuition, guiding, holidays, courses and lessons in many of the activities listed in this section - click here to find out more.
