ClimbingClimbing in the CairngormsThis word can mean many things. There is indoor wall climbing, tower climbing, foothill climbing and then serious mountain climbing. Most people will progress from being ‘walkers’ to climbers as they look for that greater challenge to their fitness and their bodies demand yet more ‘stretch’. Scotland has always been associated with quality climbing as far back as the records go and is an all year round sport. Those climbs that you mastered in the summer will look and feel totally different in the winter. The Cairngorm Mountains are some of the most famous mountains in the world and many an experienced climber will hone their skills here – perhaps for a serious ‘climb’ or expedition thousands of miles away. The novice will find the challenge worthwhile and the scenery stunning. The wildlife and plant life to be seen on the tops is both rare and beautiful and well worth the effort. The highest mountains (over 3000 feet) in Scotland are known as Munros of which there are, to date, recorded 284. Visitors to this area can be safe in the knowledge that there are some of the most experienced instructors and guides in the world, living within Strathspey. They are dedicated, committed and passionate in their wish that you enjoy the Mountain experience as much as they do.
